Basic Functions:
Under the direction of the Lieutenant, Aviation Crash, Fire and Rescue, performs the duties of a fire fighter and EMT-B in support of notary wing aviation operation on the airfield. Primary team member to respond to medical emergencies and administers basic life support as required in medical emergencies and fire and rescue response

Major Duties and Responsibilities
A. Duties/Responsibilities
1. Performs aircraft rescue and firefighting duties at airfield, which handles primarily military and commercial rotary winged aircraft and are characterized by large volumes of fuel, highly flammable cargo and/or ammunition, and passengers
2. Controls and extinguishes aircraft fires and performs overhaul and salvage operations. Performs hose, vehicle relay, pump and possible ladder operations.
3. Effects entry into the aircraft by normal emergency means. Operates or deactivates specialized mechanisms and systems such as hatch release,oxygen supply systems, engines and ejection systems.
4. Enters wrecked or burning aircraft or structures to rescue personnel or passengers and administer first aid/cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
5. Is in standby duty status during the aircraft fueling and defueling, engine maintenance and testing, welding and burning on fueled aircraft, and explosive/ammunition handling.
6. Maintains awareness of the changes that are made to aircraft (military and commercial) as these changes effects the difficulty of the rescue and firefighting.
7. Controls and extinguishes airfield structural fires. Shuts of building utilities, evacuates personnel from buildings, protects personnel and equipment form fire exposure, and operates tool/equipment under the Crew Chief.
8. performs airport patrol, surveillance operations and fuel spill containment.
9. Performs inspections and operator maintenance on firefighting vehicles, tools, equipment, specialized protective clothing, and fire hydrants. Inspects, maintains, services, repairs, and test portable fire extinguisher systems and parts.
10. Responds to medical emergencies and administers basic life support as needed.
11. Responds to hazardous materials incidents and performs containment operations to the level certified.
12. Participates in practice drills and training for the crew.
13. Conducts crew fire protection inspection functions.
14. In the absence of the Lieutenant, maybe required to take charge of all firefighting and rescue activities at the scene of a fire or accident.
15 .As part of the selection process. a physical will be conducted. candidates must have normal color discrimination, visual acuity correctable to 20/20 in one eye. 20/20 in the other eye and not more 20/200, each eye uncorrected. Candidates must not have any record of pyro phobia, acrophobia, or claustrophobia. Have and maintain a BMI of 35 or less and pass a physical fitness assessment annually.
16. Conducts internal training and participates in customer training events under the direction of the Lieutenant and Training Officer.
17. Other duties as signed by the Fire Chief.

B. Independence: Works under the supervision of the ARFF Lieutenant.

C. Supervisory Responsibilities: None Applicable.

Minimum Qualifications:
A. Education Level:
1. High School graduate required; associate degree or higher preferred.
2. International Fire Service Accreditation Congress certification, DoD and/or ProBoard required.
3. Firefighter Level I/II required.
4. ARFF Firefighter required.
5. Hazardous Material Operations required.
6. Hazardous Material Technician/IC preferred.
7. Driver/operator/ARFF/MWS preferred.
8. Emergency Medical Technician Basic (EMT-B) required-Emergency Medical Technician Certification issued by State Agency or the National Registry preferred.

B. Experience
1. Min of 5 years firefighting experience in either the U.S. Military DOD or as a civilian required.

C. Specific Knowledge, Skill and Ability Requirements
1. Considerable knowledge of aircraft rescue and firefighting techniques, practices and equipment, as well as first aide and CPR.
2. Working knowledge of the design and characteristics of military and civilian rotary aircraft.
3. Working knowledge of exit and entry procedures of various military and civilian rotary wing aircraft, and structural fire/alarm detection/suppression systems.
4. Ability to quickly perform and direct all functions in difficult and hazardous situations, without hesitation.
5. Ability to comprehend and apply instructions and communicate information in a clear and concise manner.
6. Ability to learn, apply and teach aircraft rescue and firefighting techniques and practices.
7. Ability to lead in potentially dangerous situations and make quick and sound decisions.
8. Ability to perform physically demanding work and withstand very hazardous conditions.
9. Skill in the operation of aircraft rescue and firefighting equipment, tools, and vehicles, including highly specialized firefighting apparatus.
10. Possesses a valid driver's license.
11. Ability to effectively communicate with the customer in a professional and courteous manner.
12. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written.
