Job Description

Scope:
The Senior Telecommunications Engineer will report to the Senior Director of Network Engineering, and once familiar with the infrastructure and ongoing operations, the Senior Telecommunications Engineer will be given a high degree of autonomy in establishing daily priorities and activities. The Senior Telecommunications engineer will also work with IS management in developing strategic goals and plans for the corporate data and telecommunications network infrastructure. This is a “hands-on” position requiring technical and operational skills.

Duties and Respsibilities:
Full life-cycle management (define, design, develop, deploy) for various projects relating to the upgrade and ongoing maintenance of the corporate voice or data infrastructure.
Serve as a liaison with other IS teams and other company departments to define requirements for and carry out various inter-team projects.
Daily general support for all Call Managers, VoIP gateways, Telepresence, ACD and other telecommunication systems, serving as a key escalation point for troubleshooting complex telecommunication issues.
Provide regular management reports to direct supervisor relating to the health/maintenance/uptime of systems.
Direct responsibility for maintaining systems and support service level agreements for systems uptime and support service levels.
Develop options, recommendations and associated cost benefits and implement cost effective solutions.
Document engineering standards and proposals or recommendations for voice or network designs and engineering changes.
Develop and manage project teams in area of responsibility.
Work with network engineers, technical staff, and vendors to develop and implement telecommunication projects.
Research, evaluate, and recommend new tools and technologies.
Assess emerging network technologies and make recommendations to information technology management.
Works on unusually complex technical problems provides, and solutions which are highly innovative in nature.

Other Duties:
Performs duties in a safe manner. Follows the corporate safety policy. Participates and supports safety meetings, training and goals. Ensures safe operating conditions within area of responsibility. Encourages co-workers to work safely. Identifies “close calls” and/or safety concerns to supervisory personnel. Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
Supports active implementation of company initiatives to ensure compliance with OSHA VPP, ISO, JCAHO and other mandated regulatory or conformance regulations/standards.

Physical Requirements:
Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment, however may include deployment to both domestic and overseas locations that may entail austere or challenging work environments.
Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
May require bending, stooping and lifting up to 15 lbs.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
6 years of experience working in a corporate IT/IS environment.
4 years of experience building and supporting complex VoIP networks.
Cisco CUCM, UCCX, CUC, CUPS, CUAC and Expressway installation, configuration and operation, including additional 3rd party products that integrate with Cisco solutions.
Excellent working knowledge of TCP/IP, BGP, SIP, MGCP, and VoIP protocols required.
Must be proficient in the use of VoIP analyzers and troubleshooting voice equipment.
Must have in-depth knowledge debugging problems related to communications protocols.
Must have a working knowledge of SNMP, RADIUS, Spanning-Tree, vPC, HA, and IPSec.
Must have superior troubleshooting skills related to the following network architectures: Multimode Fiber, Fast and Gigabit Ethernet, as well as WAN circuits technologies (MPLS, IPVPN, Point-to-Point).
Practical knowledge of all cabling technologies associated with the above.
Should have working practical knowledge of network monitoring (Solarwinds) and administrative tools.
Creative problem solving abilities.
Ability to work independently.
Strong customer support skills.
Strong written and oral communications.
Ability to properly prioritize multiple simultaneous tasks.
Ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance, which requires US citizenship.

Preferred Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related program.
Understanding of DWDM theory.
Certifications in CCNP Voice or Collaboration.
