Job Description
We are looking for an experienced riding instructor with excellent horsemanship skills and strong leadership capabilities. The primary objective of this position is to develop and teach engaging therapeutic horseback riding classes to children and adults with special needs. Ideal candidates will have experience working with children or adults with disabilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Instruction Duties
Develop the daily lesson schedule with assignment of roles and responsibilities, using assigned resources (horses, tack, volunteers, students).
Develop, plan, and teach stimulating, engaging and appropriate lesson plans for each participant.
Instruct assigned riding, groundwork classes, and other program activities for students of all ages and abilities in a timely, professional, and safe manner.
Track student progress through written evaluations for each student
Communicate lesson plan, participant goals and pertinent information to other staff, volunteers, and participants as appropriate, while also maintaining confidentiality.
Communicate with staff to ensure there are enough trained volunteers for each participant and activity
Maintain safety standards for all participants, guests, volunteers, horses, and staff.
Responsible for safe and respectful care and use of Queen of Hearts’ horses and equipment

Horse Duties
When instructors are NOT in lessons, or preparing for lesson instruction, they assist with the weekly exercise and schooling of our therapy horses.
Maintain daily rider attendance and horse usage records.
Periodically assist in evaluation of horses

Volunteer Duties:
Train and oversee volunteers involved in lesson assistance. Training included teaching volunteers how to lead a horse, be side-walkers, tack, and groom.
Solicit volunteer feedback and encourage volunteer interaction on a consistent basis, i.e. through discussions, trainings, interactions

Qualifications:
Ideal candidates will have experience working with people with disabilities. Candidate would hold a Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor credential with PATH Int'l (or be interested in pursuing one).
•Minimum 2+ years of experience working with horses (including daily horse care, grooming, schooling, exercising, bandaging, feeding, supplements, etc.)
•Must be comfortable and confident working with individuals with disabilities and special needs from ages 5+
•Significant riding experience and must be knowledgeable in equine behavior, movement, and safety.
•Ability to train volunteers of various levels and ages.
•Ability to prioritize, organize and manage diverse activities.
•Team player with people skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills
•Walk up to six miles a day in sand and on uneven, rocky terrain.
•Be able Bend/kneel/stoop/crouch, Push/pull and frequent fine motor use of hands and fingers
•Potential exposure to a variety of weather conditions while on facility grounds (eg. Heat, rain, wind)
•Must be available to work 8 hour-shifts, including Saturdays. (For Ex. Wed-Sat.).
