Jr. Accounts Payable Specialist
We have a need for someone to work in our Columbia, MD office as a Jr. Accounts Payable Specialist. This is an entry level position with someone interested to jump starting their career in the Accounting arena. This person will be processing and handling A/P vouchers, filing, etc. The pay rate is between 35-40K.

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will be tasked with and responsible for efficiently and accurately processing Accounts Payable for this Government Contracting firm. This also includes handling daily vendor relations; reconciling American Express and/or other accounts; handling vendor invoice verifications, processing of travel expense vouchers, initiating EFT payments, ensuring timely routine monthly payments, and other accounting and/or associated administrative tasks (such as making bank deposits, copying, filing, receptionist backup coverage, etc.) as required to get the job done. Will handle large volume of employee and subcontractor expense reports and travel claims may also be tasked to act as backup support for client billings and/or performing other duties as assigned.
Bachelors of Arts Degree (including accounting coursework) with 2-3 years of relevant experience in accounting. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
On-the-job full charge accounts payable experience - coding, data entry, customer service interaction, problem resolution, research and analysis of any and all past due amounts, reconciliations to customer statements, and filing.
Good analytical skills and some account reconciliation schedule experience.
Experience with MS Excel.
Ability to multi-task .
Excellent interpersonal & customer relations skills. Helpful, positive, "can do" attitude is critical.
Good verbal and written communication skills are required.
Very good phone demeanor and presence required to:
Work daily with vendors and/or employees to resolve invoice and/or expense issues
Back up corporate receptionist
U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Residency (Green Card Holder) is required. Candidate selected must be able to satisfactorily pass a criminal and financial background check.
Experience in Government Contracting environment is desired
Experience utilizing an automated accounting system, preferably Deltek CostPoint.
