Summary
Under the general direction of the VP Collections, the Collections Manager leads the team of collectors and support staff to ensure effective and timely review and resolution of past due consumer mortgage, collateralized and personal loan accounts, while protecting the Credit Union’s assets, financial interest, and reputation.  Takes a proactive approach to identify effective solutions on past due accounts that benefit both the borrower and the Credit Union.  Reviews, recommends, and follows foreclosure and repossession processes to successful conclusion.  Reviews, structures, and recommends appropriate loan modification and workout requests for consideration.  Motivates employees daily to accomplish goals through productivity, accuracy, and efficiency.

Under the direction of the VP Collections, manages department to control delinquency and charge-off ratios to achieve budgeted departmental objectives.
Reviews all requests for charge-off, repossession and partial settlement, foreclosure, short sale, extensions, REO liquidation and loan workouts and makes approval recommendations to VP Collections.
Directs Collections employees’ efforts to ensure that such efforts are focused and maximized on accounts that have been classified or charged off.
Assists the VP Collections in developing and maintaining updated policies and procedures pertaining to the collections process.
Ensures maximum effectiveness and resource utilization through the creation of appropriate workflows and efficient workload distribution.
Manages the effective liquidation of repossessed collateral to maximize recoveries for the Credit Union.
Ensures that applicable insurance claims are accurately filed in a timely manner to minimize potential deficiency balances.
Actively participates in business priority project implementation.
Provides pro-active recommendations to reduce future delinquency and charge-off ratios.
Ensures that all past due accounts are worked in a timely and effective manner.
Reviews charged-off loan files to identify red flags and common trends; communicates results and trends to VP Collections monthly.
Actively participates in managing vendor relationships, including outside collection agencies, attorneys, auctions, recovery firms, software providers and insurance carriers.
Actively participates in business priority project implementation.
Maintains excellent interdepartmental relationships and monitors Department performance to ensure outstanding service to internal and external customers.
Actively participates in Credit Union management.

Supervisory Functions
Effectively directs and supervises assigned employees, ensuring optimal performance.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Credit Union policies and applicable laws.
Supervisory duties include, but are not limited to, employee selection, training, coaching and discipline.  Verifies employee time records and employee performance.   Motivates, coaches, and evaluates assigned employees’ performance.
Establishes an environment that promotes teamwork and eliminates barriers to effectively working with the Department and across the Credit Union organizational structure.

Qualifications
The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to perform the essential functions of this position.

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree, and/or equivalent job experience.
Two or more years of experience in a managerial or supervisory role.
Three or more years of increasingly responsible experience with the financial services industry.
Five or more years of collections experience within the financial services industry
Experience with both consumer loan delinquencies, residential mortgage loan delinquencies, and charge-offs.
Loan underwriting experience highly desirable.

Knowledge
Board policies and Credit Union goals, organizational structure, policies, procedures, practices, and systems.
Credit Union products, services, programs, and promotions.
Credit and collection best practices.
Bankruptcy Laws and Practices.
Legal proceedings to assist the credit unions’ attorney obtain recoveries
Proficiency with MS Office required
Proficiency with Akcelerant collections management software highly desirable.
Familiarity with Symitar data processing system highly desirable.
Analytical and forecast experience preferred

Other Skills and Abilities
Ability to be bonded.
Performs duties accurately and efficiently, even with frequent interruptions.
Operates a variety of office equipment and machines.
Travels, attends, and participates in meetings, seminars, and conferences held before and after normal business hours that may require unaccompanied long-distance travel and overnight lodging.
Ability to work a variety of hours, including evenings and weekends.
